Cornell Veterinary Medicine study finds new links between dogs’ smell and vision

Researchers at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine have provided the first documentation that dogs’ sense of smell is integrated with their vision and other unique parts of the brain, shedding new light on how dogs experience and navigate the world.

“We’ve never seen this connection between the nose and the occipital lobe, functionally the visual cortex in dogs, in any species,” said Dr. Pip Johnson, assistant professor of clinical sciences and senior author of “Extensive Connections of the Canine Olfactory Pathway Revealed by Tractography and Dissection.”

There are two major reasons that your dachshund may sleep so much. Older dogs often need more rest than younger ones. Their bodies and bones may start to deteriorate with age, and their energy reserves are used for essential tasks.

In addition, they may simply have a flexible sleeping schedule that lets them wake up for a knock on the door and then go back to sleep again.

Regardless of the reason, there are some things that you should know about your dachshund’s sleeping habits.

Dachshund puppies sleep a lot, especially during the first week of their lives. Newborns usually nurse every two hours.

While they’re nursing, their eyes are usually shut and they look like they’re eating. As they grow, they’ll have more awake time, usually between two and four hours a day. This sleep-sleeping pattern is temporary.

Whether you’re a new dog owner or you’re an experienced owner, there are many things you can do to help your dog get better rest. Some of the things you can do are to crate train your dog, share the bedroom, or lick and chew her to sleep.

Having a crate is an important part of your dog’s daily routine. It provides a safe and quiet place for your dog when you are away. In addition, crate training is helpful in getting your dog to behave properly. It prevents your dog from soiling or fighting, as well as helps prevent unwanted behavior.

Some dogs enjoy being in a crate, while others have trouble with it. This depends on the dog’s personality and energy level. Crates can be a helpful tool in dog training, but they should be introduced properly.

Simple answer, no. Feeding your cat peanut butter is not a good idea. Peanut butter mainly contains proteins and carbohydrates along with a high level of fat that could negatively affect your cat.

Another risk factor for cats is the fact that they are “obligate carnivores” by nature and rely on animal products to give them the required nutrients,that is why meat is generally considered to be something that cats would consume more.

This also means that cats will have trouble digesting plant or any other sort of vegetarian matter as compared to when the food is meaty. Basically, your cat won’t receive the amino acids and such as needed for their bodies if they went purely green and decided to sustain themselves on vegetables.

Now, peanut butter is not an animal product, hence your cat will have a tougher time digesting it.

Say Hello to Sammy, our August Pet of the Month! He’s a purebred Golden Retriever, and he’s turning two on September 5th. He’s from Buffalo, NY, and a massive admirer of the Buffalo Costs! His center title, Allen, is taken from the Bills’ quarterback, Josh Allen.

His fur mother, Kelley, states that Sammy enjoys bagels and would take in one each morning. She stated, “He gets thrilled when he’s heading to Starbucks ’cause he is aware of he’s getting a bagel!”

Accurate to his mother nature, this doggo enjoys to swim! And there’s no stopping him when he sees h2o. He’d go for a splash in pools, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, creeks, oceans…it definitely does not make any difference!

Sammy enjoys participating in with sticks, but is obsessed with tennis balls. He’d select to enjoy with balls about anything.
