Pig-loving Florida pair welcome oinkers with issues at Yesahcan Sanctuary

ARCADIA – A truck crashed on the way to the slaughterhouse, suspending Milo’s day with death.

That fortuitous accident is how Milo the pig ended up at Yesahcan Sanctuary, a 10-acre animal rescue in DeSoto County operate by Jody and Karla Dumas.

Four a long time ago, Jody and Karla bought the land 10 miles west of Arcadia. They were being dwelling in Sarasota but experienced just rescued a hen – an overweight gal named “Lady Gaga” who could not wander due to the fact she was so body fat – and they wished the area to help save a lot more.

Given that then, they’ve begun the “Yesahcan Sanctuary” nonprofit, recruited about 20 typical volunteers and welcomed more than 100 animals, including cows, goats, horses, ducks, chickens, sheep, turkeys and puppies.
