Off-leash dog trails proposed for Radio Hill in Elysian Park | Parks

How could a fire-prone hill in Elysian Park be made safer? Send in the dogs, says a park advocacy group.

The Citizens’ Committee to Save Elysian Park says creating off-leash dog trails in the Radio Hill area would attract more people and their pooches to the remote corner of the park. That in turn would create more “eyes and ears” to discourage illicit activity and prevent and report fires on the hill.

The group has put out a petition to drum up support as the group lobbies Council District 1 and the recreation and parks department.

Beautiful Together animal sanctuary coming to Chapel Hill NC

Tamara Lackey and her husband, Steve Lackey, are building Beautiful Together Animal Rescue and Sanctuary on 83 acres in Chapel Hill to house animals — those that would otherwise die in shelters — until they can find foster or permanent homes.

Tamara Lackey always has had a soft spot for the vulnerable and voiceless in the world, and she’s made it her mission to do what she can to help those in need.

That has meant raising money to renovate bathrooms in an Ethiopian orphanage, taking pictures to document the stories of homeless boys, or rescuing sick animals from shelters.

Now, she’s taking those efforts one step further with an ambitious plan to address North Carolina’s high animal euthanization rate.

Spouse and children asks Chapel Hill NC Town Council to permit pigs be pets

Edson and Stephanie Freeman feel a rescue pig would be a great addition to the 5 young children, four ducks, 3 chickens, one cat, and many reptiles and snakes at their 4-bed room dwelling in Chapel Hill’s Briarcliff community.

“Little little ones in the neighborhood will appear see the ducks, and sometimes I’ll convey to them the other animals exist and I’ll carry out a snake or convey out a bearded dragon,” Stephanie Freeman claimed in an job interview Monday. “We are the petting zoo of the community.”

On Friday, she and her spouse submitted a petition to the City Council asking for new principles letting pet pigs. They bought the concept to undertake a pig soon after Freeman’s allergic reactions worsened, forcing them to obtain a new household for their dogs, they stated.
